My First Presentation in Spanish
Today was a big day in my academic career. I gave my first presentation ever in another language! Everyone was such a big help in this endeavor!! Our teacher said that we could speak five to ten minutes about any topic regarding Chile that we wanted. Most people chose places in Chile to speak about, like San Pedro and the islands. One girl did her presentation on the government, and that was really interesting. However, I decided to talk about the bread here in Chile. Don't write it off as a ridiculous topic yet, because "pan" here in Chile is VERY important. Thus far, my host mom has introduced me to over eight different kinds. Also, Chile consumes the most bread in the world, after Germany. I did some research on the importance of bread here and the different kinds available. I sent my speech to Art who looked it over and checked my Spanish. Then I practiced it for my sister and some other friends. Then I read it for my host mom so that she would correct all of my pronunciation errors. This morning before class I felt confident about my topic, which is awesome. I did not think I would ever be confident talking about something in Spanish. Ashley and I left for school early, and I bought bread for the class. We went crazy in the bakery!! We got 12 of the traditional rolls, 3 special kinds of bread, an empanada, and a cupcake. All of that for less than $6 made me a very happy camper! I was still a little nervous, so I volunteered to go first. It was fantastic!! I made it through my speech, and everyone loved their bread! It was a great day at school today!! Tonight some friends are coming over for bible study, so I am just cleaning up my room to prepare for that. I hope the second day of school went well at UIW!
